This includes fencing the river corridor and gullies to better manage grazing pressure, controlling weeds, replanting native vegetation, fixing erosion, replacing fish habitat and managing the river corridor to protect high quality habitat. We have many opportunities to help look after our river: The UMDR adventurous volunteer program is working to help control weeds, replant native vegetation and do habitat surveys along the river. Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch monitors catchment health and we use this data to feed into our management planning. Waterwatch engages volunteers throughout the upper Murrumbidgee catchment to monitor water quality and do waterbug, riparian vegetation and platypus surveys. Bush Heritage Australia manages the Scottsdale Reserve on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River near Bredbo and there are many opportunities to get involved in projects that help look after our catchment there too. Raise awareness on issues that affect the health of the upper Murrumbidgee River with the catchment community through this website, Facebook, blog posts, attending partner group meetings, giving presentations to interest groups, signage, submissions and direct communication with relevant managers. The upper Murrumbidgee River is important for many reasons: threatened and iconic species social values cultural values the upper Murrumbidgee is the water supply for regional towns and our nations capital agriculture The science tells us that the upper Murrumbidgee is considered to be in a state of decline, however there are significant areas in better ecological condition, which means that it is possible to improve its health and support the recovery of threatened species which depend on it.
